This is a John New paper that summarizes the experiments conducted on MUSKIES.
Focuses on strike feeding behavior.

Link to American Fisheries Society homepage where you can search archived
journals for papers on fish behavior, feeding habits, management practices
and an unlimited number of fish related topics. Without a subscription,
however, you will be limited to viewing abstracts only of the papers.
Link to the homepage for the Journal of Experimental Biology. This site
has a powerful search feature that enables you to download PDF files of
some of the most exciting research studies conducted on muskies and other
gamefish. Try searching with key words such as lateral line, sensory system,
predator, strike behavior, etc. to find detailed technical papers providing
insight through scientific evidence how fish react to certain stimuli and
effectively capture prey. What you find here will forever change the way
you view your own fishing habits. These papers are the heart and soul behind
many of the techniques and products from Esox Research Company.

Here is a link to the faculty page for the Parmly Hearing Institute. It
includes links to many of the professors' conduction of research on fish.
Their work demonstrates how fish use many different senses to survive. Much
of this research has been applied towards developing the innovative fishing
techniques and tackle from Esox Research Company.

A nicely written summary of fish senses and links to other interesting information
about fish in general.

This is a good link that provides an overview of fish senses.
Good site with links to general overviews of Musky/Pike senses, spawning,
feeding behavior, habitat, and threats to populations. Excellent images
accompany these articles.

This is a good sight for learning about a muskie's senses.
HEARING

Link to Bioacoustics homepage, the only international peer-reviewed journal
devoted to the study and recording of animal sounds. Resources for understanding
how fish utilize, perceive, and identify sounds.

Biology, University of Maryland College Park. Great resources for information
explaining how fish respond to sound.
Here is a link to Fish Guidance Systems. This is a company doing research
on how fish behavior can be controlled through the use of sound. Their research
may provide insight as to whether rattles are an effective feature in our
lures. At the very least, it demonstrates that certain sounds repel fish.
Initial research focused on the problem of using sound to guide fish in
a controlled manner by looking at the way that fish hear, the frequency
range that they hear over, the sort of sounds that are repellent and harmless
to fish, the form of the sound field that fish react to best underwater,
and the level of sound which will cause a reaction. (Rattles may repel fish)
LATERAL LINE (TOUCH)
A link to the research of Sheryl Coombs, Professor of Hearing Sciences at
Parmly Hearing Research Institute, which contains some video clips demonstrating
how fish utilize the lateral line sensory system to capture prey.

This is a link to the website of John Montgomery, a PHD that has dedicated
most of his studies towards understanding the mechanosensory lateral line
features in fish. Understanding how the lateral line influences fish behavior
is truly the next revolution in the sport of angling.
